Please get a spare from Mpls. Otherwise, we would have to remove and
reinstall one of the other cables.

Thanks,
Craig

Regarding channels, conditioning and cables for the external LVDT's.

We had 4 LVDT conditioner cards originally in the first 4 slots in 497#2
for this reason. But after some controversy, all spares including these
LVDT cards were taken out.

These spare LVDT conditioner cards were sent along as loose spares so
they should be on site for us to use. All we need to do is slip them
into the 497 and connect a cable up to the external LVDT.

Although I think a spare cable was made up for the LVDT's, we can either
borrow one from the LVDT spool feedback (on another actuator) or bring
along a spare cable from MTS (they are very common).

This morning, Tim and I discussed the process we would like to use for
installing the shims on the actuators .

In order to do this without getting a crane, we need to have closed loop
stroke control on an individual actuator. The process would involve
installing the maintenance struts with the safety pins installed.
Disconnect and cap the main pressure hose on the actuator to be shimmed.
Install an external LVDT on the actuator for stroke feedback. Untorque
the lower swivel/actuator mounting screws. Attach the lower maintenance
strut hand winch to the actuator to support the bottom end. Turn on
Pilot Pressure ONLY to use the bearing leakage to power the piston rod.
While unscrewing the swivel screws, retract the piston rod to open a gap
for shimming between the swivel and actuator. If swivel replacement is
required, continue retracting and unscrewing until the actuator is
disconnected. Reverse the process to tighten the screws.

Brad, you mentioned it is possible to set up the controller to do
independent control of any actuator. The twist is that we want to used
the externally mounted LVDT as the feedback to the controller. We
should be able to borrow an LVDT from the flow bench, can you make the
controller changes required to use the LVDT? Note that we would need to
map the external LVDT to any of the six actuators without changing any
other cables.

Grant, Please check to see if any AC conditioners are available for
closing the loop with the LVDT. If not, we will have to borrow one
(plus a spare?).

These controller changes need to be implemented by October 18 to allow
us to meet the schedule for the installation.

Please get back to Tim and I to let us know if this is going to work.
