Switching between srmd and 469D applications:

This is the big picture: Both srmd and 469D applications comprise GUI
software that runs on the PC, and realtime software that runs on the
PowerPC. The GUI component for srmd is totally different than that for
469D, and the realtime components are totally different as well. When
running srmd, for example, you must select its GUI component as well as
its realtime component. Selecting the GUI component is easy: you just
double-click on srmd.exe or 469D.exe. But how do you select the
appropriate realtime component?

Before answering this, first a bit of explanation of how the PowerPC gets
its realtime software: When the PowerPC boots up, it logs on to the PC,
then is directed to a directory (hereafter called the "target directory")
in which it expects to find its realtime software, then downloads it.
This happens without your involvement. For this to work, however, you
must have beforehand selected the appropriate target directory. You do
this via the Internet Service Manager, as follows:

1) Go to Start menu, Programs, Microsoft Peer Web Services (Common),
   Internet Service Manager.

2) Select Directories tab.

3) Highlight the directory name (it will be either c:\srmd\bin or
   c:\469D\bin) by single-clicking on it.

4) Hit Edit properties button.

5) In Directory edit box, type in new target directory (either
   c:\srmd\bin or c:\469D\bin).

6) Hit Apply, OK.

7) Either cycle console power, or pust the RST button on the PowerPC.
Wait until the lights on the PowerPC board stop flashing.

Step 7 is extremely important, because it forces the PowerPC to download
software from the new target directory. If you forget this step and,
for example, try to start srmd.exe with 469D realtime software in the
PowerPC, you will get error messages.

So, to summarize, in order to run srmd.exe, the PowerPC must have
downloaded srmd realtime software from c:\srmd\bin. Likewise, in order
to run 469D.exe, the PowerPC must have downloaded 469D realtime software
from c:\469D\bin. Whenever you switch between srmd and 469D applications,
you must first change the realtime target directory via Internet Service
Manager and reboot the PowerPC (either by cycling console power or by
hitting its RST button).

If you mess this up:
If you try to start 469D.exe with srmd realtime software on the
PowerPC, you will get the following error message:
		(DownSocket) Lookup failed on: Apc

If you try to start srmd.exe with 469D realtime software on the
PowerPC, you will get the following error message:
		(DownSocket) Lookup failed on: Bearing
