David,
Sounds like a good plan.

Subject: Next steps on NIED's ongoing
issues
Hello NIED team,
Mike L, Mike N and I meet for a brief discussion about the
latest NIED Controller to PC link dropout this afternoon. We have a
couple of things we would like to run by you to see if you agree. Here’s
what we thought would be the best course of action:
1.
MTS-J to identify and hire a local power quality
consultant to install power quality monitor units on the outlet serving the
Switch and also on the outlets of at least 2 of the MTS controllers and GUI
PC’s. These power monitor units will be left installed for long term
monitoring to watch for suspected power glitches
a.
This will be a pre-requisite to further investigation
from the MTS-Mpls team. It is impossible to further narrow down the
cause of the communication dropouts without first monitoring AC
power
2.
Once (1) has been implemented, a proposal will be
discussed with MTS-J for quoting basically an insurance package. The
likeliest cause of the dropouts is an issue with power glitches. This
proposal will outline the addition of (MTS supplied) UPS’s on each of the MTS
controllers and PC’s. A UPS will also be supplied for the Switch.
Replacement of the existing Switch (with the industrial grade one already
on-site or with a high reliability, enterprise class network switch) is also
being considered.
We recognize that (2) will require more careful thought but
as a whole, we (I) felt that this approach was reasonable.
Please share your thoughts on these two
items.
Thanks,
David C.
